Baccarat is a card game that has been around since the 15th century. Baccarat is common in casinos and online casinos. This beginners guide will cover the basic rules of Baccarat for new baccarat players. There are three variations of Baccarat. Punto Banco is the most commonly played and strictly a game of chance and luck. Baccarat chemin de fer and Baccarat banque allow the players to make choices and thus includes some element of skill. Baccarat is essentially a comparison card game between 2 hands, the player and the banker. There are three possible outcomes; player, banker & tie.
Punto Banco is the most common form of Baccarat and as such the easiest for a beginner player to understand. Baccarat is played with 6-8 decks of cards with ace through to nine. Tens and face cards count as zero. If two cards total over ten then ten is subtracted and the remaining total is the count. Each player may hold or pass the show and bet against the bank. The highest total that anybody can achieve in Baccarat is 9 with a two card total of nine being known as a natural. An eight is also known as a natural and is the second best score. If nobody has a natural then the player’s hand is played which is followed by the dealer. Should the player and the dealer draw the same hand then it is known as a tie and neither player nor bank wins. If the first two cards equal five or less then another card may be drawn if 6 or seven no more cards may be drawn. The maximum amount of cards for either hand is three. When both hands have been played whoever’s hand is closest to nine wins. Players may set their bet by placing chips in either player, bank or tie spot in the numbered box opposite their seat. Winning bets that are made on the player or bank are paid off in even money. The only other bet is to make a tie bet which is paid off at a ratio of 8:1.
With Baccarat counting cards is not proven to be an advantage. Betting on a tie is a long shot and not advised as the house edge can be increased from 5% commission to 14.1%. With beginners it is a good idea to practise online Baccarat to learn how the game works and gain some experience. Some casinos also offer mini Baccarat which can help new players to lean the game. It might be useful for new players in casinos to watch a few games of both Baccarat and mini Baccarat to see how the game works.
