The deadline for the full fledged enforcement of the ban on online gambling in the USA is just round the corner and yet there doesn’t seem to be any progress on the legislation to stop this from happening.

According to President Obama and various reports in the media the recession is thought to be on its way out and the economic conditions are soon to get back on track. Las Vegas hotels and casino Las Vegas owners however don’t seem as sure. Owners believe it will take a few more years before graphs on revenues start pointing upwards again and it will take more time for casinos to recover from losses. President of the American Gaming Association says that there is strong likeliness of looking into online casinos as the future of the gambling industry.
Frank Fahrenkopf Jr., president of the American Gaming Association announced at the Global Gaming Expo that the gaming industry was certainly on the road to recovery but further pointed out the although revenues are coming back to casinos it wasn’t the same as increases. Frank stated that for figures to rise back to levels before the recession would take at least another 4 years.
It has been observed that cost of development and maintenance of an online casino was a mere fraction of what it takes to run a land based casino. Online gambling methods are certainly a cheap and lucrative means of generating revenue and would cater to astronomical figures of players. Harrah’s, Las Vegas’s largest gambling operations, is already en route to creating an online poker arm at its latest interactive division in Canada.
Although the AGA has been supporting the ban of online gambling for several years in hopes of eliminating the competition, with the recent changes in the economic conditions and with more and more people moving to online casinos several land based casinos are considering online options. There seems to be a more balanced approach within the organization. Hopefully the AGA will take up the discussion on the re-introduction of online gambling in the US and perhaps support the new legislation on regulation and legalization of online gambling.
