With the economy at an all time low and the global recession continuing with its damaging effect worldwide, the USA Obama administration seems to be set on helping American Indian Tribes get through this tough phase. There is a probability that tribes will be allowed to erect casinos away from their reservations. Interestingly the US is experiencing a casino boom, and the Obama Administration is likely to be instrumental in hastening the expansion process.

The Bush administration had implemented a law that allowed Indian casinos to be built within the vicinity or within commuting distance of a tribe’s reservation however, this law is likely to be abolished by the Interior Department. Recently, there have been many lawmakers who have made attempts to change the laws governing Indian tribal casinos, and one of the most vocal lawmakers is the renowned Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger himself. Schwarzenegger heads a state which has many tribal casinos within its borders and not only is the governor wanting the tribes to build more casinos, offering more casino games, he is also recommending that California should legalize online poker gambling. Schwarzenegger is hopeful that his recommendations will be considered by the Government.
The proposition to change the directive is not being accepted by everyone, and surprisingly the tribes that have casinos are reluctant to the idea of permitting other tribes erect casinos farther from their reservations. It is obvious that any change in laws would result in more casinos being built and this in turn would saturate the markets, so existing casino owners are concerned that this could prove disastrous for the casino industry by and large, as the competition would become extremely high among casino operators.
