Recent statements have suggested that fans of the 1998 poker film Rounders will soon be able to expect a sequel to appear in the form of the much awaited Rounders 2, which is apparently now been scheduled for production. If you spend all of your free time playing at casinos like the Golden Tiger online site and want to take a look at the poker world through film when you are enjoying some down time, then this will be a fantastic opportunity for you to get the chance to watch it on the big screen and get a second taste of the film which enjoys a cult classic status these days.
It has often been pointed out as the reason behind the poker boom which took place in the early 2000’s, after launching a new generation of enthusiasts into the idea of playing the game. We have heard many announcements over the years since then of the idea of a sequel being made, with Miramax Films and the Weinstein Company often teasing us with statements that it was going to be sorted out soon, but now it seems as though the film is scheduled for production and is seriously going to go ahead. It is expected that some of the previous stars of the first film are going to turn up again, including Matt Damon and Edward Norton, though it is not clear just yet as to whether some of the other stars such as John Malkovich or John Turturro might also join them. More than a decade has passed since the film first hit cinemas, so it will be adjusting to see where life is taken the characters since then, and what kind of direction the film will take. The excitement around the release of the sequel started back in December 2010, when a statement from Miramax gave the following promise: “Miramax and the Weinstein Company today announced an agreement to create sequels to some of Miramax’s best-known properties and to partner on potential new television shows and special edition home entertainment products. The first films to be produced under the agreement will be sequels to ‘Bad Santa,’ ‘Rounders,’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love.’
We also saw promises then for potential later projects including Bridget Jones’ Diary, Cop Land, From Dusk Till Dawn, Swingers, Clerks, Shall We Dance, and the Amityville Horror. It remains to be seen whether all of the promises which they made will be carried out, but the latest reports seem to confirm the production of the second Rounders movie, which was originally slated to be made in time to be released in 2012 – a promise which led he did not come to fruition. As with any movie there has been plenty of discussion and negotiation, along with shuffling of cast members and issues with the script, but perhaps we can now have hope that we are going to see the sequel to this long-awaited film at last within the next few years.
