Like in a James Bond thriller, Russia and the US are planning a spy swap involving 10 people who were detained by the FBI last week. Among the 10 who have been detained is Anna Chapman who is running an online poker network.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, US authorities are planning to send home certain Russians in exchange Russian prisoners who have been jailed for spying for Western powers. Both countries seem to be eager to complete this exchange with the least possible delay and the least publicity too.
Chapman was in the limelight as she is a beautiful young woman who has been socializing with several men who are high up in the military and US intelligence. However her contacts in Russia claim that they barely knew her and she approached them to gain funds to start up her online poker network and not as an espionage agent.
It is believed that Chapman did have a business that handled online real estate listings. But real estate agents say that she knew nothing about this business.
Chapmanās ex-husband was unaware of both the real estate business and her internet poker project too. He said that his marriage to Chapman was dissolved in Britain after he was contacted by several mysterious Russian people. Chapman is the daughter of a former KGB agent and according to her ex-husband she wanted to pursue her career rather than a relationship.
This spy swap was proposed by the Obama administration as a means to take the attention off the spy scandals and build cordial relationships between the two countries.
As for Chapman, her hopes for a successful online poker network might have to be put on hold when she returns to Russia as it is illegal there.
