Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon had earlier proposed that revenue brought in by way of online gambling which surpassed the $1 billion mark last year, could be routed to health care reform in the US. However, he is now deciding against his proposition since he claims that both the issues are far too big to be discussed together. This of course was proposed based on the proposed bill from Representative Barney Frank to regulate online gambling and legalize the activity in the US, which is still pending for submission.

While Barney Frank with his Financial Service Team is making head way in proposing legalization and is gaining co-sponsor support, it is not definite as to when the bill will be favorably passed by the Congress, and will be impossible for Wyden to move forward with his amendment until Barney Frank’s proposition finds favor with the Congress.

Jennifer Hoelzer who is Wyden’s communications director had reiterated that the Senator has no intention to introduce any controversial issue into the debate that is already happening around the health care issue, but will wait for an opportune time to re-introduce the amendment. He is hopeful that the proposition to regulate online gambling and his recommendation to help restructure health care in the US, will find favor with the Congress in due course.

The amendment appears to have the support of law makers who have been backing Barney Frank’s bill. Many millions of dollars are being lost to other companies in the US, and the lawmakers want to make doubly sure that US online casino games gamblers are protected from unethical actions.
